Changing privacy settings of a publication

Learn how to update who can view and subscribe to your newsletter

On this page
  1. On the Dashboard, Open your publication, then click the Settings > General tab in the left bar
  2. Scroll down to the Privacy Settings section

You'll see 5 switches which control the privacy settings of this publication.

Public publication

By switching on or off the Public publication option, you are enabling/disabling search engines such as Google, Yahoo, Bing as well as AI bots from crawling your newsletter. This is great if you want to keep your newsletter private and only allow a certain audience to read the newsletter. After turning this option off after it was previously on, it can take up to a few months for search engines to remove any results from their listings.

Create an archive of issues

Each publication has an archive of past newsletter issues enabled by default. When you publish each newsletter, you are given a URL for this archive. Readers can also click the View Archive button in the top menu when reading your newsletters to see the archive.

If you don't want to have an archive of past newsletters, you can disable archiving. This means readers won't be able to browse past newsletters, unless they have a link to that specific newsletter. The option Create an archive of issues for this publication decides whether iNewsletter will create an archive or not.

Allow public email subscriptions

iNewsletter enables you to grow your audience by allowing public subscriptions. What this means is that anyone who comes across your newsletter can add themselves to the subscription list (via the Subscribe button on the cover page) so they will receive the email summary next time the newsletter is published. You may want to change this behaviour, so by ticking or unticking the Enable public email subscriptions checkbox, you are enabling/disabling this feature.

Receive daily digest of new subscribers

You can choose to receive a daily email listing any new email subscribers. An email won't be sent if there are no new subscribers that day, and will only be sent to the email address of the logged in user. Other users can enable this option for their own account if they wish.

Password

You can protect your newsletters with a password, requiring readers to enter the password to access the newsletter. This will also turn off the Public publication option. This password will need to be communicated to readers before sending the newsletter.
